Wireless cameras on RC trucks?
October 25, 2009
As with anything people have their toys. In the world of RC (radio controls) cars and trucks the big fad these days is to install a small wireless camera so you can get a drivers view of that things look like while your car ripping along from the driver point of view. Another neat feature is to attach small wireless cameras to things like airplanes and helicopters to get a birds eye view of the land scape, pretty cool. I have recently purchased a RC rock crawler truck and am in the process of setting up a camera mount on the tuck so I can actually drive the truck a round with out actually seeing the vehicle. I plan to set this up for various applications that will come up in future blog post. The whole system (camera and receiver) cost around 150 bucks and the receiver can record so you can post cool crawls on You Tube for all the world to see, fun stuff! I am using a 2.4 GHz system with a water proof outdoor camera that can see in the dark. This setup brings a whole new element to RC toys for sure. I plan to post a video clip in the near future.
How to set up a wireless IP camera for remote veiwing

First thing is to log into your wireless router and set up the trigger port type input 80 for the port. This should be under the special applications settings in your router. I used a D link to test this out. The input port range should be set to 80 also. Next go into the virtual server settings in the router name the setting to camera 1 (for example). Next type in the
IP of the camera ( ie 192.168.0.5) the protocol should be set to TCP next the public port should be set to port 80 and the private port set to 80 as well. After that type in your public IP address. You should be able to find this by going to this web site http://whatismyip.com. Save this setting and repeat this process for your second wireless IP camera but change the 80 to a 81 and so one. I used a D link gamer lounge router, yours should be close to this . You have now configured your router!
The next step I recommend is to go to HTTP://www.dyndns.com/ (this is a free service) and set up an account here. Once you have done so log into it and go to the services tab on your upper right hand corner. Scroll down to host services click add host name (right hand side) here you can select a host name from the drop down menu. When host name is selected you can use the auto detect feature to grab your public IP. This allows you to name your wireless IP cameras instead of just typing the IP addresses, it can make things easier. Once you have this info you can go back into your router and set up your Dynamic DNS portion. This information you will now all ready have.
The final piece to the puzzle is to go back into your wireless IP camera and set up the DDNS in your network settings and now you should be Set up! Make sure that when changing any settings to the wireless IP camera that you have it plugged into the router with the net work cables other wise you can lose your connection to the camera. I hope this information helps. This kind of set up can be quite a pain. Even with the hand book. Try it out and see.
Wireless cameras can be the most affordable home security out there.

I know I know long title. Hey this can be totally true considering most people spend around 25 bucks a month on alarm systems that are great for fire but as for thieves and vandalism, they can be lest than adequate at times. Plus alarms can be quite costly to install . I’m not saying they are a bad thing but there are alternatives that can be just as good. Wireless security cameras for your home are a really good way to protect your place when you can not be there. The nice thing about wireless security cameras is that you can install the system your self, no costly install fee and they are portable, you can move them in a matter of just a few minutes. In the event you are robbed or your property in vandalized the wireless security cameras will have caught who ever did it and there is no getting away with any thing. It is a great resource for the police to have good photos to help in their case. You could have a decent system up and running for about two hundered bucks. Just something to think about as an alternative solution.
In this blog post we want to talk about different types of wireless cameras and how they differ. Today we are going to talk about the difference between CCD lens verse the CMOS lens as most people have no clue what this is or what it can mean for them. First we will start with the CCD lens or charge-coupled device which is made up of thousands of little pixels and a small 1/4 or 1/3 chip. This type of lens produces a much clearer picture than it’s CMOS counter part but is usually more money and if placed out side should be shrouded as the suns UV rays can damaged the lens. This type of lens is usually recommended for out door security as the clarity is much better making it easier to identify the possible bad guy. On the other hand theCMOS lens are cheaper but with lower quality in picture one feature is that you can produce a smaller camera with the CMOS technology and they also require less power to operate you can quite easily run one for anywhere between 4 and 6 hours off of 9 volt battery. These are thing you should look into before purchases a wireless cameras kit.

I know this doesn’t happen to every body but when it happens to you it really sucks. You go out to get in your ride to find out its missing and no you weren’t drinking and left it some where most probably. This is a rotten feeling and the worst of it is until it turns up possibly all burnt up in the woods. You have no recourse. You call the police and they ask did you see any one? Lets stop right there, this is were a wireless IP camera would have been real handy. They send videos and still shots to your computer and also email you jpegs, the bad guy will get caught! You would have some really nice pictures to show the police and possibly post a little video on you tube, you know just to get the word out.

Quite often you hear of people who have a cabin or even a project on the go that either gets looted or vandalized in some form or fashion. It’s hard to wire up a camera system, as quite often there in no power and no way to mount cameras permanently. This is were wireless cameras can be a great tool to fight crime and possibly prevent theft as some of them can run off of batteries. These types of security solutions can be used for all sorts of scenarios. The sky is the limit on what you can dowith wireless security cameras.
Watching out for your loved ones

With the uncertainty of the falling stock market many retirees are looking at other ways to survive more affordably. Some are moving in with their children into basement suits and such. This is a good idea as it saves money and can make it easier to be around the family. That being said some of these elderly people have special needs and or medical conditions. With the use of a wireless security camera placed in their suit, they can be looked after should any thing happen. Quite a few makes and models of wireless security cameras have audio features so you can hear what is going on, should someone find them selves in distress all they would need to do is call out. Not a bad feature you never know, it could save a life.

October 2, 2009The flexibilty of wireless camera systems
October 2, 2009![]()
Wireless technology allows camera placement in areas other wise impossible to reach with wired cameras. Some wireless systems use SD cards to record images. Others use a transmitter that sends a signal to a receiver which is connected to a DVR or a PC. Normally the signal can be sent at least 300 feet providing there is no major impediments.
Examples of wireless security cameras are a USB DVR wireless system that can have up to four cameras that can be used indoor or outdoor for personal flexibility. The USB receiver turns your computer into a network camera surveillance tool allowing you to see what is happening from anywhere in the world via the Internet.
In recent year the price of these wireless camera systems has become quite affordable. For less than a hundred bucks you can set up a wireless security cameras and receiver. That’s not bad considering what it could cost you to have a wired system installed by a professional.
