Security Measures for the Home
May 1, 2009
Keeping our homes secure is one of the most important endeavors we can undertake. Especially if you have a family, it’s imperative that your home is a place where everyone feels (and is) safe. With that in mind, many people have turned to installing various forms of home security, which includes any number of surveillance cameras. But if you’ve started looking for these cameras, it’s likely that you’ve come across the issue of whether you should buy wired or wireless. The first step to making this decision is understanding the difference between the two.
A wired camera must be connected to an external device such as a television, DVR, or VCR. A wireless camera, on the other hand, transmits a signal to a separate receiver. Depending on the make or model of your camera, this receiver must be no more than a few hundred feet from the physical camera. While many people are familiar with hidden wireless cameras thanks to shows such as “Punk’d” or “Candid Camera,” these are growing increasingly common in households that are looking to install some basic security measures.
